Gading Resort Residence
Gading Resort Residences is a low-rise apartment building located in Kelapa Gading Square, a complex where you can also find Mall of Indonesia (one of the largest malls in Jakarta), the Villas (housing complex), the French Walk, and the City Walk Apartment Towers. It is owned by the group Agung Sedayu.

Position in Jakarta
Gading Resort Residence is located at the border between Sunter and Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta. It is a relatively rich, dynamic area with plenty of huge malls, businesses, restaurants, and even some nightlife (including a red light area). Many of its residents are Chinese Indonesians.
The location is not very strategic in my opinion unless you work in the area. It is more than an hour away from Jalan Sudirman (Central Jakarta) and from the airport.
Places of Interest Nearby
The main positive point about Gading Resort Residence is that there are plenty of interesting places within a short distance. For instance:
– Mall of Indonesia (across the street): You can enter it very easily via Centro Department Store. This large mall has absolutely everything you need including a cinema (Blitzmegaplex), a hypermarket (Carrefour), a bookstore (Gramedia), karaokes, a massive food court, etc. You can see the full list of tenants here: MOI Kelapa Gading.
If you don’t like Mall of Indonesia, you can go to other ones nearby like Artha Gading Mall (cheaper, for the middle class), Mall Kelapa Gading 1, 2, 3, and La Piazza (for eating).
– The Hospital Rumah Sakit Mitra Kelapa Gading
– Because of the rich Chinese population living in Kelapa Gading, you can also find plenty of good restaurants, especially Chinese, Korean and Japanese ones.
For those interested, there is also a red light area with several naughty massage parlors and clubs within less than 1 kilometer.
There is usually quite a lot of traffic around Mall of Indonesia and it may take time just to reach the toll road (which connects Kelapa Gading to Tanjung Priuk, Cililitan, Bekasi and Ancol).
Once on the toll road, it becomes easier to go around Jakarta, especially during off-peak hours. It’s not easy to go everywhere, though. Areas like Pondok Indah or South Tangerang are 90 minutes away (and you’ll have to spend at least IDR25,000 on the toll road).
If you like walking, you can go by foot to many interesting places, especially all the shops, restaurants and services located within Kelapa Gading Square. This large area is relatively quiet and safe from other cars.
There is no train station near Gading Resort Residences. The closest would be Ancol but it’s 9 kilometers away.
The Transjakarta lines no. 10 (Tanjung Priok-PGC2) and no. 12 (Penjaringan-Tanjung Priok) stop near Mall of Indonesia.
Living in Gading Residence is a bit weird as you are basically in the middle of a huge shopping center area. While it is convenient, it lacks the authenticity or charm of other areas of Jakarta like Senopati, Menteng, or even Kemang.
As mentioned before, there is a strong Indonesian Chinese community in Kelapa Gading. One of the consequences is that you’ll see more churches than mosques for instance. Restaurants may also serve pork and alcohol more often.
Design and Architecture
Gading Resort Residences are made of several 7-floor towers disposed all around a garden/swimming pool. The exterior appearance of the building is rather nice, yet a bit outdated. One of the good points is that the aircon units have been installed in a discreet location just below the balconies.
The interior design is more original, particularly in the lobby area. There is a painted dome with Roman statues, obviously a copy of some Italian palace. Some people would call it tacky while others will probably love it.
Materials used in the building of Gading Resort seem to be fairly good. The most impressive is the use of marble tiles in the lobby area.
From what I could observe, the finishes are decent. Few traces of paint on windows or tiles.
The facilities of Gading Resort Residences consist of the following:
– A narrow swimming pool surrounded by a garden, with a turtle pond
– A well-equipped fitness center
– A playground for children
– A semi-private lift (one for 2 apartments)
Within the complex, there is a minimart, an ATM and a laundry service. Just across the street, you can find absolutely anything you need in Mall of Indonesia.
Since there aren’t that many tenants in Gading Resort Residences, I noticed that a lot of people seem to know each other. This kind of small residence is therefore recommended for those who care about being part of a community.
Most apartments are 3 or 4 bedrooms, meaning that the residents are overwhelmingly families (Indonesian Chinese).
The garden was taken care of, all equipment was functioning well, and the overall appearance of the property was satisfactory.
The cleanliness of Gading Resort Residence was good.
There are guards on duty 24/7 in the lobby of the residence. To access the wing of your unit, you will need an access card.
Everything went well with the staff.
Prices at Gading Resort Residences may vary depending on the floor, the unit type, the room condition and the furnishings. On average, you will pay the following:
3-Bedroom Type (110m2) – Furnished:
- Rental 1 Year: IDR 10M-15M per month
- Buy: IDR 1,650,000,000 to IDR 2,000,000,000
