ACS (Anglo-Chinese School) – Jakarta

ACS Jakarta started in 1996 as a national plus school, under the name Sekolah Tiara Bangsa. In 2002, it became part of ACS (Anglo-Chinese School), a prestigious group of schools based in Singapore and founded in 1886 by a methodist bishop. It is a rather religious school with strict discipline.

Type:

Kindergarten, Primary, Middle School, High School – from 2 years old to 18 years old.

Location:

ACS is located in Cipayung, East Jakarta, about 15 minutes from Taman Mini. It is near the toll road, yet that’s not a very convenient location for most expats. The main advantage of being in this area is that the school, even with reasonable tuition fees, can afford to have a large green campus with top facilities.

Admission:

Admission to ACS is not automatic. Prospective students must take a test and complete an interview before being accepted. The subjects tested are English and Mathematics.

If your child’s English level is not deemed sufficient, additional English classes will be offered to help bridge the gap with other students.

Number of students (Enrollment):

Over 800 students, almost all are Indonesian.

There is an average of 20 students per class (24 is the maximum allowed).

Curriculum and programs:

Grade 1-6: Curriculum from the Cambridge International Examination Board, with a Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Test in Grade 6.

Grade 7-10:  Curriculum from the Cambridge Examination Board, with IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education, recognized in the UK) examinations (recognized in the UK) in Grade 10.

Grade 11-12: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with IB examinations in Grade 12.

Cost (yearly):

Admission fee: IDR 4,500,000

Preschool: IDR 68,000,000

Kindergarten: IDR 108,000,000

Elementary: IDR 190,000,000 (Grade 1 to 6)

Middle School: From IDR 202,000,000 (Grade 7-8) to IDR 212,000,000 (Grade 9-10)

High School: IDR 230,000,000 (Grade 11-12, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme)

A 15% Early Bird discount can be granted if you make a down payment of minimum IDR 20,000,000 within 3 days of your child being accepted in the school.

Other fees:

Compulsory camps for Grades 5, 7, 9 and 11: Between IDR 12,000,000 and IDR 22,000,000

IGCSE and International Baccalaureate examination fees: Around USD 800-1000

Learning materials: It can reach up to IDR 20,000,000 for IB students.

Language of instruction:

English except for Chinese/Indonesian language + religion classes. 75% of the teaching staff is made of expatriates or Indonesians who have studied abroad.

Religion:

While ACS was founded as a Methodist school, all religions are welcomed. There is a weekly religion class to choose between Muslim, Catholic, Christian, or Multi-Faith.

Languages taught:

English, Indonesian, Chinese.

Extra-curricular activities:

Students are divided among 4 different houses that compete against one another (a bit like in Harry Potter).

Many extra-curricular activities are available: From sports (football, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, badminton, etc) to arts (drama, music, dance).

Equipment and facilities:

Modern classrooms with AC, a theater, two dance rooms, a recital hall, 6 music rooms, 5 tennis courts, swimming pools, 3 soccer fields (1 large and 2 small), an indoor sports hall with basketball/volleyball courts, a gymnasium, and 6 badminton courts.

Also available, a clinic, a cafeteria, a school shop, and a playground.
